Wolodymyr Oleksandrowytsch Selenskyj ist seit Mai 2019 Präsident der Ukraine. Nach seinem Jurastudium erlangte er in der Ukraine und in Russland Popularität als Schauspieler, Komiker, Synchronsprecher, Regisseur, Fernsehmoderator, Filmproduzent und Drehbuchautor. Nachdem Selenskyj im Frühjahr 2019 den ersten Wahlgang und die Stichwahl der Präsidentschaftswahl in der Ukraine mit etwa 73 Prozent der abgegebenen Stimmen klar vor dem amtierenden Präsidenten Petro Poroschenko gewonnen hatte, wurde er im Mai 2019 Staatspräsident. Gemäß der Verfassung der Ukraine, die keine Wahlen im Kriegszustand vorsieht, bleibt Selenskyj legitimer Präsident, solange eine Neuwahl durch das nach dem russischen Überfall verhängte Kriegsrecht ausgesetzt ist.
